The Return-To-Play Process

Bridging The Gap

Return-to-play systems are designed to bridge the gap between early rehab process and full return to practices and games.

During injury rehabilitation, it is essential for athletes to be exposed to the demands of their sports progressively, as they reach each stage of their recovery.

Without this planned exposure, athletes often make the mistake of returning to too-much-too-soon, leading to common reinjuries or even new ones.

After 3 consecutive ACL surgeries, I went from feeling like I had no option but to walk away from the game I love, to being strong enough to suit up again at the professional level.

Better Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy for athletes has historically fallen well short from yielding quality results, mostly due to the lack of a holistic approach including rehab, strength & conditioning, and recovery strategies - or lack of communication between providers of those modalities.

TALO Integrated Return-to-Play will bridge this gap by introducing a systematic return-to-play system with seamless integrations between PT, S&C, and sports practices.

In this system, all staff involved is a part of the same team, with the single goal of supporting the athlete to return to their activity safely, timely, and effectively.

I came to TALO 5 weeks after having ACL surgery. Five months later, I feel stronger than ever and am feeling confident and excited about my return to sport. The training and education that TALO provides is top-notch and I always look forward to my sessions!

Medical Support

TALO has developed strong relationships with the leading sports medicine providers in PDX.

We work with Sports Medicine Oregon, including the team doctors of Portland Timbers and Timbers Development Academy, to create tight knit communication systems to inform our return-to-play strategies.

The goal is to provide the complete support athletes’ need from the initial injury response to the final steps in returning to competition.

Even with no diagnosis for my Hip Labrum Tear for several months, TALO staff guided me through low impact strength exercises to prepare for a possible surgery. After my surgery and working with their recommended physical therapist. TALO helped me with trusting my hip and build strength everywhere else to prevent further injuries.

I always felt comfortable coming into training knowing that my program was designed for me and my injury recovery. Even after I was fully back into playing soccer, the staff continues to support and guide me to stay injury free.
